Artisanal miners from Lomami province in Congo (DRC) receive first aid training as part of MDS
As part of the Diamonds and Development Initiative's Maendeleo Diamond Standards (MDS), artisanal miners from the CAMICO cooperative in Lomami, Congo DRC received first aid training in partnership with the Red Cross.
MDS is an innovative certification system that enables the ethical production of diamonds by artisanal and small-scale mining through the adoption of standards and best practices. The certification process aims to formalize the small-scale artisanal diamond mining sector, including through safe extraction practices.
The Minister of Mines of the province of Lomami Alphone Mbuyi Kabulu joined the miners to present them certificates of completion at a ceremony held at the conclusion of the training. The Minister also presented 3 first aid kits provided by DDI to the president of CAMICO and urged mining operators to put into practice their training and share their knowledge with other miners.
