LAND RECLAMATION SIERRA LEONE
Launched in January 2019, DDI’s 3 year land reclamation project seeks to progressively diminish the potential for negative environmental impacts and degradation of the natural surroundings (including soil, water, air and biodiversity) in the communities where these activities and/or their impact occur. The pioneering project is made possible by the contribution of Anglo American, and once completed it will directly benefit 3,340 people and another 33,400 people indirectly.
Rehabilitation of 90 mined out sites posing an immediate health and safety risk to their surrounding
Open pits backfilling or otherwise appropriately refilled/blocked, in order to enhance revegetation (assisted or un-assisted), as well as to prevent the safety and health risks associated with open pits
